Watch the SA National Figure Skating Championships in Cape Town this May

Ever dreamed of becoming an ice skater worthy of an Olympics medal? Or do you know the technical elements of a Lutz jump by heart? If you simply enjoy watching skaters dance on the ice, now is your chance to watch the South African National Figure Skating Championships at the GrandWest Casino and Entertainment World in Cape Town this May.

Where can I watch the SA National Figure Skating Championships?

Visitors are welcome to come to watch the South African National Figure Skating competition taking place on Monday, 9 May, and Tuesday, 10 May at the Olympic-sized ice surface called the Ice Station at GrandWest.

All eligible skaters were invited to take part in the South African National Figure Skating Championships 2022 by the Western Province Figure Skating Association and the South African Figure Skating Association (SAFSA). The Western Province Figure Skating Association is the largest skating community in the country and offers free skating, pairs skating, ice dance, and synchronised skating as well as a robust “Learn to Skate” programme.

With the help of full-time coaches, skaters are able to achieve high levels of competitiveness, with many of them representing the Western Province at a National level, with some of these representing South Africa on the international circuit.

Spectators can look forward to seeing talented skaters competing across a number of categories such as singles, pairs, and synchronised skating teams.
