In preparation for the 2024 general elections, as political parties strive to gain the support of South Africans, former President Thabo Mbeki has expressed uncertainty about whether he will campaign for the African National Congress (ANC).

While participating in a dialogue event at Unisa on Thursday evening, hosted by the Thabo Mbeki African School of Public and International Affairs, the statesman conveyed his hesitation to campaign for the ANC until the party undergoes renewal. According to Mbeki, the ANC National Conference in 2017 had resolved that the party must renew itself; otherwise, it faces the risk of decline.
