In connection with Heard’s 2018 Washington Post op-ed, in which she spoke out about being the victim of domestic violence, actor Johnny Depp is suing ex-wife Amber Heard for $50 million in defamation.
Heard’s story did not expressly name Depp as her claimed abuser, but it did rely on “the core premise that Ms. Heard was a domestic abuse victim and that Mr. Depp perpetrated domestic violence against her,” according to Depp’s lawsuit. Amber Heard is suing Depp for $100 million in retaliation.

The defamation trial started Monday in Virginia’s Fairfax County Circuit Court, with jury selection wrapping up the same day. Celebrity witnesses, such as James Franco and Elon Musk, may be called to testify. TDPel Media News Network will be covering this high-profile trial on a daily basis.
