If you’re passionate about education and already rolling up your sleeves to make learning better for everyone, here’s your chance to take that impact to a global level.
UNESCO is now on the lookout for the next batch of young education leaders to join the SDG4 Youth & Student Network for 2026–2027.
What’s the SDG4 Youth & Student Network?
It’s more than just a title.
This network is a global community powered by young minds who care deeply about Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4), which focuses on quality education for all.
Managed by UNESCO, the network gives youth and students a platform to contribute to educational policies, push for change, and co-create ideas that make learning more inclusive and equitable.
As a member, you’ll get to attend workshops, contribute to policy discussions, take part in conferences, and collaborate on meaningful projects.
It’s a space to grow your leadership, connect with global changemakers, and actually help shape the future of education.
What to Expect If You’re Selected
If you make it in, you’ll serve as a member of the network from January 2026 to December 2027.
But your journey kicks off a bit earlier — between October and December 2025, new members will go through onboarding activities alongside those already in the network.
Keep in mind that this is a volunteer position.
There’s no payment involved, and it doesn’t create an employment relationship with UNESCO.
Still, the experience and exposure can be life-changing.
Who Can Apply?
Before you rush off to apply, here’s what you need to qualify:
-
You must be between 16 and 30 years old.
-
You should already be involved with a non-profit or youth-led organization working in education (either locally, regionally, or globally).
-
Your work should clearly align with SDG4 – Education 2030.
-
You must have no conflicts of interest, like holding a government role or working with a for-profit business that could interfere.
The Selection Process, Explained
Here’s how UNESCO will pick the next cohort of leaders:
-
May to July 2025 – Applications open.
-
July to August 2025 – A dedicated Selection Committee (including UNESCO staff and youth leaders) will review all submissions. Another UN body focused on youth will observe to ensure everything is fair and transparent.
-
September 2025 – Selected applicants will be notified.
What are they looking for?
A genuine interest in education and sustainable development, strong leadership skills, active involvement in your community, and a clear commitment to being part of the network for the full two years.
They also aim for a diverse and inclusive group, reflecting gender, region, and background balance.
Ready to Apply? Here’s What to Know
The application requires you to detail your current work and impact in the education space, especially in connection with Education 2030.
It’s a good idea to look through the sample application form first so you can prepare your answers properly.
