In a recent move to address internal issues, the UMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has decided to pause all new recruitments.
This decision was announced by the party’s secretary-general, Sifiso Maseko, in a letter released over the weekend.
Reasons Behind the Recruitment Freeze
Maseko’s letter, dated September 7, revealed that there had been a surge in appointments within the party’s provincial, regional, and sub-regional levels.
These appointments included service providers, administrative staff, and political office bearers.
Maseko highlighted that these rapid changes have led to significant risk and chaos within the party, which is led by Jacob Zuma.
Maseko emphasized that all such appointments and deployments must stop immediately.
Party members are instructed to refrain from making any new appointments until further notice from the National Secretariat.
The party is currently undergoing a restructuring process to better manage these key roles.
Impact on Floyd Shivambu
This announcement coincides with Floyd Shivambu’s recent appointment as the national organizer of the MK Party.
Shivambu’s role is crucial as he is tasked with strengthening the party’s structure in preparation for the 2026 local government elections.
The recruitment freeze might affect his plans and the party’s overall strategy.
Court Ruling on Expelled MPs
In other news, the 10 expelled members of Parliament from the MK Party lost their recent court case to be reinstated.
On September 9, the Western Cape High Court rejected their application and ordered them to cover the legal costs.
The expelled MPs include Thami Khuzwayo, Isaac Menyatso, Mpho Motshegoe, Augustin Madala Qwetha, Grace Mgwebi, Ntombenhle Mkhize, Matholeni Masilela, Bongani Mfiki, Senzo Dlamini, and Agnes Mogotsi.
Their positions are now filled by new appointees such as Mzwanele Manyi, Brian Molefe, Siyabonga Gama, Lucky Montana, and Thulani Gamede.
Party’s Response
MK Party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela stated that the court’s decision underscores the party’s initial stance that the matter should have been resolved internally.
He criticized the court case as a frivolous attempt by disgruntled former members and affirmed that the party had followed all necessary procedures.
The ruling is seen as a validation of the party’s position and a step toward restoring its reputation.
