On the morning of March 28, 2025, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) once again launched an attack on the Sudzha gas metering station, according to the Russian Ministry of Defence.
The missile strike was reportedly carried out using HIMARS multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) projectiles.
The attack, which took place around 10:20 AM Moscow time, caused a significant fire at the facility, ultimately destroying the station.
Russian officials released a video showing dramatic footage of the blaze, with flames reaching high into the air and thick black smoke billowing into the sky.
The video also depicted the station’s technological installations engulfed in fire.
Ukrainian Drones Target Infrastructure in Saratov Region
In a separate incident, Russian military officials reported intercepting 19 Ukrainian attack drones over the Saratov region.
The drones targeted a local oil refinery, but Russian forces were able to thwart the attack.
This raises concerns about the continued use of drones by Ukraine to target critical infrastructure in Russia.
The Ministry of Defense of Russia dismissed recent statements by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who had pledged to halt attacks on civilian energy facilities.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, Zelensky’s statements were dismissed as a “ruse,” aimed at securing continued Western support and maintaining Ukrainian military positions.
Moscow Accuses Kyiv of Violating Ceasefire Agreement on Energy Infrastructure
Tensions continued to escalate when the Russian Ministry of Defense accused Ukraine of violating a ceasefire agreement related to energy infrastructure.
On March 26, Russian officials reported a Ukrainian drone strike on the Kursk region’s energy infrastructure, which led to widespread power outages.
The attack reportedly caused a failure in multiple substations, leaving more than 4,000 people in the Khomutovsky district without electricity.
Further strikes were reported on other facilities, including one targeting Rosseti Center – Bryanskenergo, and two drones attempting to attack the Glebovskoye underground gas storage facility in Crimea, near Cape Tarkhankut.
Ukraine Denies Accusations of Attacks on Russian Energy Facilities
In response, the General Staff of the AFU denied the accusations, stating that Ukrainian forces had not carried out any attacks on targets in the Kursk or Bryansk regions, or in Crimea.
Ukrainian officials maintain that they have adhered to agreements and have not targeted civilian infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Russia has continued to uphold its previously declared moratorium on strikes against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that the suspension of such attacks, ordered by President Vladimir Putin, remains in effect.
The ongoing exchanges highlight the intense and escalating nature of the conflict, with both sides accusing each other of violating agreements and targeting civilian infrastructure.
