Two people were injured in a head-on collision on the R501 between Carletonville and Potchefstroom

Two people have been injured in a head-on collision that happened this morning on the R501 between Carletonville and Potchefstroom.

Before 7 a.m., ER24 and the Provincial EMS arrived to one wrecked vehicle on the road and the other in the middle of the median. Upon closer inspection, medical personnel discovered a man seated in one automobile and a woman lying trapped inside the other.

When medical professionals examined the victims, they discovered that the man had suffered significant injuries, while the woman was in a critical state.

To remove the woman from the car, the rescue crews needed to use specialized equipment. Following their release, the patients were treated and given advanced life support procedures before being taken to the Mediclinic Potchefstroom for immediate care.

Authorities from the area were on the site to conduct additional investigations.
