Two friends in New York City ended up in a rather embarrassing situation after they locked themselves out of their apartment and found themselves stranded on a fire escape.

The pair, one of whom is named Alex, had been enjoying the unusually warm weather in the city when they realized they were locked out.

Naturally, they had no choice but to call for help.

A Viral Moment on TikTok

Alex, who later went viral, shared a video of the entire incident on TikTok.

The clip shows her talking to her friend as she admits they might be “the dumbest people ever” for the mishap.

“This is so embarrassing,” one of the girls can be heard saying, clearly mortified by their predicament.

Alex then nervously called the fire department, clarifying that there was no fire but that they needed help getting back inside.

Joking Around While Waiting for Help

As they waited for help, the two friends couldn’t help but joke about the situation.

One asked, “What if they bring a whole fire truck?” to which the other replied, “We’re so stupid.”

To their surprise, the fire truck did indeed show up, parking in front of their building.

From the fire escape, the girls watched as firefighters began unloading from the truck, clearly getting ready to assist.

The Firefighter’s Reaction

When the firefighters arrived, one of them climbed up the fire escape and immediately smirked upon seeing the girls stuck outside.

“This is so bad,” one of the girls whispered, realizing how ridiculous the situation looked.

The firefighter, using a crowbar, worked quickly to pry the locked window open, eventually rescuing the pair.

Relieved and Grateful

After finally being let back into their apartment, the girls couldn’t stop laughing.

“No way!” they cheered, relieved and amused by how things had turned out.

One of the girls joked with the firefighter, saying, “You’re like fighting fires, and we just asked you to open a window.”

Grateful for the rescue, the girls thanked the firefighter profusely as they laughed at their own blunder.

TikTok Fame and Laughs

The video, which was shared on Saturday, quickly gained traction on TikTok, amassing over 37,000 likes.

In the caption, Alex also playfully thanked her neighbors for cheering her on during the whole ordeal.

Alex, who regularly shares videos about her life as a college student in New York City, has built a following of 166,000 people on the platform and has received over 12 million likes on her content.

It’s a situation that was both embarrassing and hilarious, but in the end, the girls were just grateful to be back inside their apartment and to have such a funny story to share.
