In a groundbreaking moment for beauty pageants, Tshego Gaelae has etched her name in history as the first Black woman to be crowned Mrs. World.
The Soweto-born beauty queen took center stage at the grand finale in Las Vegas, leaving the judges and audience in awe.
Her victory not only secured the prestigious title but also marked a significant milestone in representation and empowerment for women of color across the globe.
A Triumph for South Africa
On January 31st, Gaelae stood tall among contestants from around the world, outshining Sri Lanka’s Ishadi Amanda and Thailand’s Ploy Panperm to claim the coveted crown.
She follows in the footsteps of Candice Abrahams, the only other South African to have won the title back in 2016.
Draped in a stunning custom-made white gown adorned with intricate beadwork by South African designer Claris by Gerrit Pienaar, Gaelae radiated elegance and confidence as she accepted her crown.
Overwhelmed with Emotion
The moment her name was called, emotions ran high.
Gaelae struggled to hold back tears, overwhelmed by the magnitude of her achievement.
“This moment is beyond my wildest dreams.

To my sisters in the Mrs. South Africa pageant—never stop believing in yourselves.
Your dreams are within reach.”
