The NBA world is buzzing as the Atlanta Hawks and their four-time All-Star guard, Trae Young, are now officially exploring trade possibilities.
The 27-year-old point guard, who has been the face of the franchise since 2018, is reportedly working closely with the Hawks to find a new home.
This announcement brings an end to months of speculation about Young’s future in Atlanta, and it signals a major shift in the team’s direction.
Talks Between Young and the Hawks
According to ESPN, Young’s representatives, led by Aaron Mintz of CAA, have entered what are described as “positive and collaborative” discussions with Hawks General Manager Onsi Saleh.
This development comes after a summer where the Hawks reportedly opted not to offer Young a lucrative contract extension, suggesting the team may be ready to move on.
Currently, Young still has two seasons left on his contract, valued at roughly $95 million, including a player option for the 2026-27 season.
Potential Trade Destinations
While nothing has been finalized, early reports hint that the Washington Wizards could be front-runners for Young’s services.
Other teams reportedly interested include the Miami Heat and the Minnesota Timberwolves, all of whom could benefit from adding a dynamic playmaker to their rosters.
Hawks Look Toward the Future
With Young possibly on the way out, Atlanta seems ready to pivot toward a new era led by rising star Jalen Johnson and recent acquisition Nickeil Alexander-Walker.
Johnson has been sensational this season, averaging 24 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 8.5 assists, proving he can handle the team’s primary load.
Young’s Injury Struggles
In contrast, Young’s season has been hampered by injuries. He’s currently sidelined with a right quad contusion after previously suffering a right MCL sprain.
Interestingly, the Hawks’ performance without him has actually been better: Atlanta holds a 15-12 record when Young is out, compared to a disappointing 2-8 record when he plays.
The team’s defense has also tightened without Young, allowing nearly 10 fewer points per game.
A Legacy in Atlanta
Despite the setbacks, Trae Young remains one of the league’s most prolific playmakers.
Last season, he led the NBA in assists, averaging 11.6 per game.
Since being drafted in 2018, he has been named an All-Star four times and famously led the Hawks to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2021.
However, the team has struggled to replicate that playoff success, and now it seems both Young and the Hawks may be ready for a fresh start.
The Big Question
With trade talks underway and multiple suitors showing interest, the biggest question remains: where will Trae Young land, and what will the next chapter look like for both him and the Hawks?
