The Toronto community is grappling with grief and confusion after news broke of the tragic death of 20-year-old university student Shivank Avasthi.
Authorities have confirmed that the young student was killed on December 23, 2025, in what police are treating as a deliberate act.

Toronto Police announced that Babatunde Afuwape, a 28-year-old resident of the city, has been arrested in connection with Avasthi’s death.
