While the 2025 BAFTA Television Awards were full of glitz, glam, and golden trophies, it wasn’t just the winners who caught everyone’s attention.
Stacey Solomon may not have walked away with an award, but she certainly stole the show — and not because of a designer label.
She brought out her actual wedding dress, reimagined for the red carpet, and proved that sentiment can be just as powerful as style.
From Wedding Bells to Red Carpet Glam
Ahead of the BAFTAs, Stacey, 35, took to Instagram to show off her eye-catching look — a custom playsuit made from her 2022 wedding dress.
She and Joe Swash tied the knot two years ago, but Stacey couldn’t resist giving the dress a second life.
“Wearing it just once feels like a travesty,” she confessed.
The transformation was dramatic but elegant. She kept the original corseted bodice but ditched the sleeves and added sharp, modern detailing to the neckline.
The skirt? Gone. Instead, she wore shorts with a dazzling, thigh-slit skirt overlay, showing off her toned legs.
Joe, ever the supportive husband, looked dapper beside her in a classic black tux.
A Moment of Gratitude
Though Stacey didn’t win either of her two nominations, she was genuinely thrilled just to be included.
She shared her excitement with fans online, writing:
“Off to the BAFTAs! I’m so excited and so grateful to have been nominated for TWO @bafta this year. What in the heck is life?”
She was nominated for Entertainment Performance for her show Sort Your Life Out, which also received a nod for Best Factual Entertainment.
She thanked the BAFTA team, her colleagues, and the BBC for giving her the opportunity to host what she called the “best job in the world.”
A Dress with a Story
Sharing more about the outfit’s sentimental backstory, Stacey explained she worked with longtime stylist Faye Sawyer and seamstress Issy to rework her gown into a fresh, fashion-forward ensemble.
“I just wanted to get her out of the box and take her out on another special day,” she wrote.
She even posted a sweet video showing the dress being altered, calling it her “favourite dress ever.”
The transformation clearly meant as much emotionally as it did aesthetically.
Hoping for a Miracle
The day of the ceremony, Stacey was in great spirits, despite feeling a little nervous.
She shared a photo with a giant daisy and joked: “Very proud to say I’ve been nominated for 2 BAFTAs this year.
Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d be writing that.”
After feeding the animals at home, she and Joe headed off to the event — with Stacey crossing her fingers for a “miracle.”
Unfortunately, that miracle didn’t materialize as she lost out to Joe Lycett for Entertainment Performance.
Big Wins and Memorable Moments at the BAFTAs
While Stacey’s moment was emotional and personal, the awards themselves were packed with drama, laughs, and powerful speeches.
ITV’s Mr Bates vs The Post Office took home multiple awards, with producers using their acceptance speech to urge the government to act swiftly on compensation for those impacted by the scandal.
BBC had a banner night, earning 17 wins across the board — the most of any network.
And yes, the night had its share of unpredictability too.
Danny Dyer Drops F-Bombs and Wins Big
Danny Dyer made sure his first-ever BAFTA win didn’t go unnoticed — or un-bleeped.
Accepting the award for Male Performance in a Comedy for his role in Mr Bigstuff, the EastEnders star couldn’t hold back his emotions (or his swear words).
Between heartfelt thanks to his daughters and a touching tribute to co-star Ryan Sampson, the BBC had to quickly cut out several expletives for the televised broadcast.
Host Alan Cumming later apologized on air for the “naughty language” — though he accidentally swore himself during another segment.
Kirsty Wark Honoured with BAFTA Fellowship
The night also celebrated long-standing excellence, with journalist Kirsty Wark receiving the prestigious BAFTA Fellowship for her impactful career in news and current affairs.
Alan Cumming, presenting the award, hilariously misread the title, calling it the “b**d fellowship” before quickly correcting himself with a bashful “Oh f me!”
Despite the flub, Kirsty’s recognition stood as one of the evening’s most meaningful moments.
Ruth Jones Thanks James Corden for a Legendary Partnership
One of the sweetest speeches came from Gavin & Stacey star Ruth Jones, who won Female Performance in a Comedy for reprising her iconic role as Nessa in the Christmas finale.
She gave a heartfelt shoutout to her writing partner and co-star James Corden, hinting there may be more to come from the beloved duo.
“I love writing with you. Long may it continue,” she said warmly.
