The notion of a north-south all-star Premier League game has been proposed by Todd Boehly, the new chairman of Chelsea.

In a New York conference, the Blues’ new co-owner, who also owns stakes in the Los Angeles Dodgers and Lakers, said he had already discussed the concept with Premier League rivals.

The top players from each conference compete in exhibition all-star games in both Major League Baseball and the NBA.

Boehly stated that the money received may be utilised to funnel further funding from the top of the football pyramid down.

The MLB All-Star game this year brought in $200 million (£171 million) over the course of a Monday and a Tuesday, according to Boehly. “People are talking about additional money for the pyramid,” he added.

We thus believe that a north against south all-star game for the Premier League could be readily done.

Boehly discussed Chelsea’s firing of Thomas Tuchel while speaking at the SALT thinking leaders conference.

Tuchel was fired last week after Chelsea’s 1-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb. Tuchel guided Chelsea to the Champions League title in 2021.

Graham Potter has been appointed as Tuchel’s replacement, and Boehly alluded to a rift with the German.

Boehly said, “You have to make sure you’re aligned with the individuals who are managing the firm when you take over any business.”

“Our aim for the club was finding a manager who truly wanted to engage with us, a coach who really wanted to collaborate. Tuchel is clearly highly gifted and someone who had tremendous success at Chelsea.

“Zagreb wasn’t the issue; rather, it was our common concept of how Chelsea should seem.

“It wasn’t a choice based on a single victory or defeat; it was a move we believed was in line with the club’s long-term goals.”

Boehly also revealed Chelsea’s intentions to operate under a multi-club format akin to the City Football Group, which also controls Manchester City.

We’re going to keep increasing resources, he said.

“We’ve discussed having a multi-club model, and I would love to keep expanding the footprint.”
