Imo State Governorship Aspirant Escapes Ambush, Calls for Election Cancellation

Attack on PDP Governorship Candidate in Imo State

In a disturbing incident, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State, Samuel Anyanwu, faced an alleged attack on Saturday in the Ikeduru Local Government Area of the state.

According to reports by SaharaReporters, heavily armed men ambushed Senator Samuel Anyanwu’s convoy, opening fire from all directions around 5 pm.

Ambush Details: Convoy Attacked, Aides Injured

The assailants targeted the convoy, leaving some of Senator Anyanwu’s aides with varying degrees of injuries.

Video footage obtained by Naija News revealed the aftermath, showing vehicles in the convoy, including two security cars, riddled with bullet holes. Despite the intense attack, Senator Samuel Anyanwu managed to escape unharmed.

Governorship Hopeful Calls for Election Cancellation

In the aftermath of the attack, Samuel Anyanwu, in a press conference, called for the cancellation of the off-cycle election.

He criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agents, alleging their failure to ensure a credible election process. Anyanwu accused security agents of protecting INEC staff while members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) purportedly manipulated results.

Allegations and Evidence: PDP Candidate’s Stand

Senator Anyanwu presented evidence during the press conference, claiming that one of the thugs involved was a member of the House of Assembly.

He disclosed finding an identity card belonging to the lawmaker during the incident. Anyanwu urged INEC to review the available evidence and consider canceling the election results in the affected areas.
