Three women to host 2022 Oscar Awards

Jimmy Kimmel, a successful television host, was the latest Hollywood A-lister to host the Oscars in January 2019. The Oscars will have a host for the first time in three years!
The 94th Academy Awards will be hosted by American actors Wanda Sykes, Amy Schumer, and Regina Hall, according to Good Morning America on Tuesday, February 15th.

THREE STAR ACTRESSES TO HOST OSCAR AWARDS 

According to Good Morning America, it has been 35 years since there have been three hosts for the Oscar Awards. For the first time ever, three women will be hosting the prestigious awards show.
Wanda Sykes, Amy Schumer and Regina Hall will take centre stage at the 2022 Oscar Awards.

“I’m not sure who thought this was a good idea, but I am hosting the Oscars,” said Amy Schumer.

In a joint statement sent to Entertainment Weekly, all three hosts said: “We want people to get ready to have a good time. It’s been a while.”

WHY HAVEN’T THE OSCARS HAD A HOST? 

Jimmy Kimmel was the last Hollywood A-lister to host the Oscar Awards in January 2019. According to Vox, Kimmel claimed he earned $15 000 (R227 000) for the gig in 2017.
Actor Seth MacFarlane told Entertainment Weekly the Oscars are a gig that has “all eyes on it”.

“When you’re ding something that’s that much in the spotlight, with that much focus on it, that much intensity, you’re going to have a lot of opinions from a lot of people,” said MacFarlane.

THE NOMINEES 

The nominees for the 2022 Oscar Awards were announced on Tuesday 8 February. Jane Campion’s Western drama, The Power of the Dog leads with 12 nominations. Denis Villeneuve’s Dune is behind with 11 nominations.
For the first time, the awards have chosen 10 feature films for the Best Picture category and the competition is tight!
The likes of Netflix’s star-studded Don’t Look Up, to Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story have all been nominated for an Oscar.
