…By Lola Smith for TDPel Media. Three municipal workers in Durban were injured on Sunday morning when a wall they were working next to collapsed on top of them.
Garrith Jamieson, a spokesperson for ALS Paramedics Medical Services, said they received numerous calls just before noon on what was initially thought to be an electrocution on Hunt Road, before Clark Road, in Glenwood, Durban.
The municipal workers were reportedly injured when a wall next to them collapsed on Hunt Road just before noon on Sunday.
Jamieson added that ALS Paramedics Medical Services arrived at the scene to find three municipal workers who had been working on a line when the wall fell on them.
The workers were quickly pulled out by co-workers before the medical services arrived.
The patients were assessed by Advanced Life Support Paramedics and found to have sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.
The three workers were stabilised on the scene before being transported to a nearby Durban hospital for further treatment.

Commentary:
Workplace accidents can have serious consequences, and the injuries sustained by these three municipal workers are a reminder of the dangers of working in the construction industry.
It is important for employers to ensure that adequate safety measures are in place to protect their workers.
It is fortunate that co-workers were able to quickly assist the injured workers before medical services arrived.
This highlights the importance of having trained first responders on-site who can provide immediate assistance in the event of an accident.
Investigations will need to be carried out to determine the cause of the wall collapse and whether any safety protocols were overlooked or insufficient.
It is essential that lessons are learned from this incident to prevent similar accidents from happening in the future.
