This year’s Homecoming skips king and queen titles

This year’s homecoming at an Illinois high school featured two members of ‘royalty’ instead of a king and queen.

However, the two male winners, chosen by more than 800 students at Hinsdale High School in Darien, Illinois, both requested to be referred to as king.

Chris Jasulca, a representative for Hinsdale South, said that under the new procedure, in which they are referred to as royalty, they were asked if they wished to be referred to as king, queen, or royalty.

He outlined how the procedure worked and stated that a student group and faculty sponsors formed plans for homecoming.

This year’s homecoming at Hinsdale High School in Darien, Illinois, will feature two members of ‘royalty’ instead of a king and queen.

Before homecoming, the freshman, sophomore, and junior classes each selected two students to serve on the homecoming court.

Ten individuals from the senior classes were selected. According to Fox 32, the entire student body then voted for two senior court members to serve as royalty during an all-school assembly.

The spokeswoman stated that the sixteen members of the court studied the voting procedure prior to the assembly.

He stated that they had no doubts or reservations and that the school committee believes that all pupils may participate in the process.

It follows the adoption of similar ideas by other schools in the area, notably Riverside-Brookfield High School.
