The rankings were carefully determined using thirteen (13) carefully calibrated performance metrics that show an institution’s achievement in four (4) key areas: teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international perspective.

The University of Lagos has undoubtedly improved greatly from previous years’ rankings, with a gradual improvement from 2020 to the present. UNILAG increased its range from 801-1000 in 2020 to 601-800 in 2021, 501-600 in 2022, and now 401-500 in 2023. The University, on the other hand, is not giving up on its goal of being named one of the top ten universities in the world.

The school is currently tied with the University of Ibadan for first rank in Nigeria, with Covenant University coming in between 601 and 800th place. UNILAG shares the 401-500 range with, among others, the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, US; Aston University, UK; University of Bayreuth, Germany; Brunel University, London, UK; and Colorado State University, Fort Collins, US.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Oluwatoyin T. Ogundipe, FAS, thanks management, staff, students, alumni, friends, and other university stakeholders for their different contributions to the achievement.
