‘The children must eat’: Lillian Dube reveals why she was a sex worker

Popular TV host and actress Lillian Dube recently revealed her darkest secret on Somizi Mhlongo’s talk show – Downtime With Somizi.

The star told the Idols SA judge that she once worked as a prostitute and that she gets upset with people who speak ill of prostitutes because nobody chooses to be one.

LILLIAN DUBE: ‘ I HAVE BEEN THAT’  

Legendary actress Lillian Dube – who’s appeared in shows such as Soul City, Muvhango, and Skwizas recently appeared as a guest in Somizi Mhlongo’s talk TV show – Downtime With Somizi and shared that she was once a sex worker.

Dube who was born in Lesotho didn’t grow up with a silver platter as she had to ‘hustle’ her way up to the top.

She told Somizi:

“I am a girl from Lesotho, I have had so many jobs, I have been a domestic worker, a nurse aid, a tea girl.”

She also added:

“When you speak about prostitutes, I have been that the children must eat, I must survive.”

“I have done anything for survival but by the grace of God, I am now the most respected and loved actress.”

NOBODY CHOOSES TO BE A SEX WORKER  

The Clientele TV personality also told Somgaga that she gets angered by people who speak ill of prostitutes because nobody chooses to be one. 

“When people speak ill of prostitutes, I get so angry because no one ever desires to be a prostitute, circumstances lead them there.”

She also shared that she was once a victim of sexual abuse and managed to survive the traumatising incidents without reporting them or seeking help from the authorities.

Fans of the TV show and the seasoned actress took to social media to react to her revelation.

Dube was accompanied by her former Muvhango co-star Mara Louw – who played the character of Catherine Mukwevho in the SABC2 soapie.
