A young father who choked two newborn infants till they went blue in a brutal hospital assault while his own girlfriend gave birth close by has been detained in Texas.

The 18-year-old Marcus Dewayne McCowan was arrested on Monday at the Odessa Regional Medical Center.

He had been ejected from the area where she was being cared for after acting oddly with nurses when he was there to witness his own girlfriend give birth.

He began jogging up and down the corridors before sprinting past a few nurses and attempting to break into the nursery.

He turned around and proceeded towards a baby in a carrier that was close to its mother and was waiting to be released since the door was shut.

As he fled with the baby into a nursing room, McGowan pulled it out of the baby carrier and choked it until it became blue in the face.

He afterwards rushed away from that infant and entered the nursery this time.

A second baby was taken from its cot by McGowan, who then started strangling and shaking the baby until she became blue while yelling “Die!” at her.

He was managed by a hospital therapist, who also cared for the infant until police came to take him into custody.

He is now being detained on suspicion of attempted capital murder.
