Taiwan reports record high 1,390 new domestic COVID-19 cases

Taipei, April 18 (CNA) Taiwan on Monday reported a new record high of 1,390 new domestic COVID-19 cases, marking the fourth consecutive day more than 1,000 domestic cases have been recorded.

The new cases were reported in 19 cities and counties, with New Taipei recording the highest number at 500, followed by Taipei with 270 and Taoyuan with 187.

Keelung reported 115 cases, Yilan County 68, Hualien County 57, Taichung 41, Kaohsiung 31, Tainan and Pingtung County 21 each, Hsinchu City 20, Taitung County 14, Hsinchu County 13, and Chiayi County 10.

Nantou County recorded seven cases, Yunlin County six, Miaoli County five, Changhua County three, and Penghu County one.

Of the 10,155 domestic COVID-19 cases recorded nationwide this year from Jan. 1 to April 17, 44 have been classified as moderate infections and three as severe, while the others, accounting for 99.54 percent of the total, were either mild or asymptomatic, according to the CECC.

The man had received three COVID-19 vaccine shots and is currently in a stable condition, the CECC said.

Meanwhile, Taiwan recorded 90 new imported cases on Thursday, 63 of them travelers who tested positive on arrival in the country.

To date, Taiwan has confirmed 35,983 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began, including 26,144 domestically transmitted infections, according to CECC data.

With no deaths reported Monday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 fatalities in the country remained at 854, the data showed.
