An active shooter at an apartment complex in Colorado has been captured.

The suspect was taken into custody just before 10:30 a.m. local time.

One person was injured and taken to a local hospital, though their condition is not yet known.

Police Response and Safety Measures

Police responded to the Arista Flats in Broomfield, located northwest of Denver, early Thursday morning.

Residents were instructed to stay indoors and avoid the area, which has since been secured.

By 8:07 a.m., authorities were still reporting shots fired and described the situation as fluid. A SWAT team and crisis negotiators have been brought in to manage the emergency.

Broomfield Police warned that the surrounding area was not safe and advised limited evacuations.

They urged everyone to steer clear of the area. Jefferson Academy, located nearby, was also put on lockdown.

According to the police, when a building is “on secure,” it means the school is operating normally inside, but all doors are locked, and no one can enter or exit.

Eyewitness Account

Broomfield, situated about 16 miles from Denver and across the city from Aurora, where a separate incident occurred involving a migrant gang, experienced its own tense moment this morning.

One resident recounted her experience to CBS, saying she was walking her dog when she suddenly heard a series of gunshots.

She described how, just before 8 a.m., she let her dog out and immediately heard loud, rapid gunfire.

A nearby child who was heading to the school bus ducked behind a rock and urged her to get inside.

In a panic, she grabbed her dog and rushed back into her home, hearing more shots and police sirens as she did.
