Niger State Police Apprehend Suspected Car Thief in Minna-Suleja Operation

In a recent operation, operatives of the Niger State Police Command successfully arrested Nathaniel Andrew, a suspected car thief, in Minna.

The police not only apprehended the alleged offender but also recovered a stolen Toyota Corolla vehicle in the process.

The arrest occurred along the Minna-Suleja road, where the suspect was en route to Gbaiko to visit his parents.

Police Statement on the Arrest

DSP Wasiu Abiodun, the spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, disclosed the details of the arrest in a statement released on Friday, January 12, 2024.

According to the statement, the police patrol team attached to Paiko Division made the arrest on January 3, 2024, at approximately 1700hrs.

Nathaniel Andrew, aged 32 and a resident of Gbaiko in Minna, was apprehended while driving a Toyota Corolla LE vehicle, red in colour, suspected to be stolen.

Suspicious Actions on the Highway

The patrol team spotted the suspect on the Minna-Suleja road, driving a vehicle without a registration number.

The vehicle experienced a mechanical fault during the journey, prompting the suspect to attempt to sell the spare tire for repairs, claiming he had no money.

These actions raised suspicions, leading to his arrest by the vigilant police team.

Confession and Stolen Vehicle Origin

During interrogation, Nathaniel Andrew confessed to stealing the vehicle from the Central Area, Abuja. He admitted to finding the vehicle key on the car’s door, using it to drive away to Minna.

The suspect claimed he planned to sell the stolen vehicle in Kaduna before his arrest.

Further Investigation and Prosecution

The apprehended suspect has been transferred to the Crack Squad unit for further investigation and eventual prosecution.

The Niger State Police remain vigilant in their efforts to curb criminal activities, and the successful arrest serves as a testament to their commitment to maintaining law and order in the region.
