Sujata Day is rewriting ‘American Pie’

A new “American Pie” film is in production.

Written by Adam Herz and directed by Paul Weitz, the 1999 sex comedy “American Pie Presents” has spawned three sequels and five spin-off films.

Actress Sujata Day of “Insecure” has now signed on to write a new script.

According to “The Hollywood Reporter,” the story is based on an original pitch by the director of “Definition Please” and is described as a fresh take on the saga, although plot details have not yet been revealed.

Tara Reid, who played Vicky in the original film, reprised the role two years later in “American Pie 2.” She previously admitted that she and her co-stars would love to make another installment in the series.

She said: “We’ve been talking about it for ages. We’d all want to do that, but we’ll see what happens.”

The actress has previously defended the risqué humour of the series, arguing the films all had “heart” and weren’t harsh, unlike many modern comedies.

She said: “So many actors were terrified to make it at the time. They thought it went too far.

“But it’s ultimately a movie about awkward kids and it has so much heart in it.

“What I enjoy about that movie is that there is no bullying or meanness. Lots of jokes these days are just cruel.”

In addition, the “Sharknado” actress has stated she still desires to win an Academy Award and has even practiced her speeches in front of the mirror at home.

She stated, “I still desire the Oscar. That’s the dream of every performer.

“You practice your planned speech in front of the mirror using toothpaste as your microphone.

There is still time for me to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
