Stormers Coach John Dobson Reveals Steven Kitshoff Will Miss At Least Six Weeks with Neck Injury in South Africa

In a recent announcement, Stormers head coach John Dobson shared some unfortunate news about Springbok prop Steven Kitshoff.

Kitshoff will be out of action for at least six weeks due to a neck injury, which is a significant blow to both his team and his international prospects.

Kitshoff’s Injury Woes Continue

Steven Kitshoff has been struggling with injuries since the end of last year’s Rugby World Cup, which led to his exclusion from the Springbok squad.

After a period of recovery, he made his return to Western Province during their Currie Cup campaign.

Unfortunately, despite his efforts, the team’s chances of making the playoffs had ended before his latest match.

In a bid to improve his chances of rejoining the Springboks for the remainder of the Rugby Championship, Kitshoff played in Western Province’s final round-robin game against Griquas in Kimberley last Friday.

However, his return ended in disappointment as he sustained a neck ligament injury during the match.

Impact on the Stormers and Springboks

During a recent URC coaches roundtable, Dobson revealed that Kitshoff’s injury will keep him sidelined for at least six weeks, after which his condition will be reassessed.

This means Kitshoff will miss the beginning of the Stormers’ URC campaign and might also be unavailable for the Springboks’ end-of-year tour, which includes Test matches against Scotland, England, and Wales in November.

Springbok Squad Update

In other news, Springbok head coach Rassie Erasmus has announced his 28-man squad for the upcoming Rugby Championship match.

The Springboks are currently leading the standings with 18 points, thanks to four wins from four games.

Argentina trails with 10 points, followed by New Zealand with seven and Australia with four.

To secure their first Rugby Championship title since 2019, South Africa needs just three more points from their remaining two matches.

The Springboks will face Argentina at Estadio Único Madre de Ciudades in Santiago on Saturday, September 21.

New Additions to the Springbok Squad

The 28-man squad includes several players who have been recalled from their provincial teams:

  • Johan Grobbelaar (Bulls)
  • Manie Libbok (WP/Stormers)
  • Makazole Mapimpi (Sharks)

With the Springboks looking strong, all eyes will be on how they perform in their upcoming fixtures.
