Viktor Gyokeres is attracting a lot of attention after reports surfaced that the Swedish striker could be available for under £70 million next summer.
This news comes on the heels of his standout performance in a recent match against Manchester City, where he scored a stunning hat-trick.
With 66 goals in 67 appearances for Sporting Lisbon, his stock is certainly on the rise.
A Strong Performance and Growing Interest
The 26-year-old’s impressive form has caught the eye of some of the Premier League’s top clubs, including Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea.
New Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, who is also the outgoing boss of Sporting Lisbon, quickly dismissed any speculation regarding a January move for Gyokeres, but hinted that a summer transfer could be more likely.
Despite an £84 million release clause in his contract, Sporting is reportedly expecting bids around the £60 million mark.
Amorim Speaks Out on Gyokeres’ Future
Amorim spoke candidly about Gyokeres’ situation, acknowledging the challenges he faced leaving Sporting and the impact of his departure.
“It was tough for me to leave, and if I start joking about Gyokeres’ future now, I might run into trouble,” he said.
“This is my city, this is my country, and I’ll respect that. Viktor needs to stay until the end of the season, and after that, maybe his journey will lead him somewhere else.”
Gyokeres’ Thoughts on Amorim’s Departure
While Gyokeres didn’t comment directly on a potential move to United, he did speak highly of his relationship with Amorim and the staff.
“We’ll miss him a lot,” Gyokeres admitted.
“We’ve achieved so much together, and it’s going to be strange without him. But change is part of football, and we need to focus on what’s next.”
