The Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service Department has been summoned to the National Assembly building on Wednesday, February 16th, according to Parliament.
The National Assembly building, which was damaged by fire at the start of the year, is presently being inspected by structural engineers from the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure, according to Parliament spokesperson Moloto Mothapo.
Engineers noticed heat in specific areas of the building’s basement and decided to summon firemen “immediately.”
He said summoning the firefighters was a precautionary measure in order to avert a potential flare-up. However, there is no immediate danger to the structural engineers on-site or the Parliamentary precinct in general.
