The lineup for the 2024 Presidents Cup is now set, with International Team captain Mike Weir making some key selections to complete his squad.
Weir has chosen six players to join his 12-player team, bringing a fresh mix of talent and experience.
New Faces and Familiar Favorites
Weir’s picks include South Africa’s Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Canada’s Corey Conners, Taylor Pendrith, and Mackenzie Hughes, South Korea’s Si Woo Kim, and Australia’s Min Woo Lee.
This selection process highlights an exciting first for the Presidents Cup: three Canadian players are set to compete for the International Team, a historic moment for the tournament.
Among the six players chosen, Hughes and Lee will be making their Presidents Cup debut, while Kim previously competed in 2017.
Bezuidenhout, Conners, and Pendrith had their first taste of the event in 2022.
Meet the Full International Team
The full roster for the International Team also includes Hideki Matsuyama from Japan, Im Sung-jae from South Korea, Adam Scott and Jason Day from Australia, and An Byeong-hun from South Korea.
The team showcases a diverse representation from five countries: Australia (3), Canada (3), Japan (1), South Africa (1), and South Korea (4).
Presidents Cup History
The Presidents Cup, which first took place in 1994, has seen the United States secure 12 victories out of 14 events.
The International Team has won once, and there was a notable 17-17 tie in 2003 at The Links at Fancourt in South Africa.
This year’s tournament will be held at The Royal Montreal Golf Club in Montreal from September 24-29, 2024.
This venue also hosted the event in 2007, when Jack Nicklaus led the U.S. team to a 19.5-14.5 victory over Gary Player’s International Team.
Spotlight on the U.S. Team
The U.S. team, captained by Jim Furyk, features automatic qualifiers Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Wyndham Clark, Patrick Cantlay, and Sahith Theegala, along with six additional players: Sam Burns, Tony Finau, Russell Henley, Keegan Bradley, Brian Harman, and Max Homa.
