South Africa’s Bafana Bafana Coach Hugo Broos Announces Final Squad for Upcoming AFCON Qualifiers with Uganda and South Sudan Set for November 2024

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has named his final 23-player squad for South Africa’s CAF 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Uganda and South Sudan.

The announcement took place on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at SABC television studios in Auckland Park.

This comes after Broos initially selected a preliminary squad of 38 players just a week earlier, narrowing it down to those who will represent South Africa in these crucial matches.

South Africa’s AFCON Group K Battle

South Africa finds itself in Group K alongside Congo, South Sudan, and Uganda.

Bafana Bafana’s first challenge is an away match against Uganda on November 15, followed by a home clash against South Sudan at Cape Town Stadium on November 19, 2024.

Currently, South Africa sits second in the group with 8 points, just two points behind Uganda, the group leaders.

Broos is optimistic about securing qualification for the 2025 AFCON tournament, needing just two more points from the remaining fixtures to guarantee their spot.

The top two teams in the group will advance to the tournament, which is set to take place in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.

Players Excluded from the Final Squad

The squad announcement also saw the exclusion of 15 players, who will not be part of the final 23.

Among those left out are Ricardo Goss, Bradley Cross, Thabang Matuludi, Thabiso Sesane, and Grant Kekana, alongside a few notable names like Percy Tau and Sipho Mbule.
