Get Ready for a DStv Price Increase in April 2025
It’s official: DStv prices are set to rise once again, and no, it’s not an April Fool’s joke.
Starting on April 1, 2025, South African customers will see their subscription fees go up.
MultiChoice, the company behind DStv, has confirmed the hike will take effect from this date, following a delay in their usual announcement.
The Delay and Upcoming VAT Impact
Originally, DStv was expected to announce their price increase much earlier.
However, the delay in South Africa’s Budget Speech and uncertainty surrounding a potential VAT increase pushed the announcement back.
While the price hike starts on April 1, it’s worth noting that a VAT rate increase, effective May 1, could bring another round of price adjustments.
MultiChoice has been transparent with customers, saying that the VAT increase of 0.5% (taking the rate to 15.5%) may result in additional price changes. They’ve assured customers they will provide more details on how this will affect package pricing when it happens in May 2025.
Price Changes for DStv Packages in 2025
So, what do these price increases look like? DStv Premium subscribers will feel the change most directly, with a hike of R50 per month—this means an additional R600 per year.
For those who want to enjoy the full entertainment and sport experience, the new DStv Premium will cost R979 per month starting April 2025.
Don’t forget, there’s also a new DStv Access Fee of R125, which will be added to the price of most packages.
Here’s a breakdown of the new DStv fees starting April 1, 2025:
- DStv Premium: R979
- DStv Compact Plus: R659
- DStv Compact: R479
- DStv Family: R339
- DStv Access: R150
- DStv EasyView: R30
- DStv Access Fee: R125
- Showmax GE (Add To Bill): R60
- Showmax PL (Add To Bill): R60
- DStv Indian (Add-on): R280
Note: These prices are based on the current 15% VAT rate, but that could change once the VAT hike kicks in next month.
A Tough Month Ahead for South Africans
Unfortunately, this DStv price increase isn’t the only financial hit South Africans will face in April.
Eskom, the national electricity provider, has already confirmed that electricity prices will go up by 12.74% starting in the same month.
So, get ready for a double whammy as both electricity and DStv costs rise together.
Are You Affected?
If you’re a DStv customer, this price change will likely impact your monthly bills.
How do you feel about these hikes? Are you planning to downgrade your package or make any changes to your subscription?
