Sola Giwa, the governor’s transportation advisor, said RTEAN suspension was necessary due to violence

In a statement released on Thursday, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, stated that the suspension was necessary due to pockets of violence that were reported in Ojo and Lagos Island on Wednesday.

He also stated that a 35-member caretaker committee had been formed to take over the Union’s operations.

He declared: “Hon. Sulaiman Adeshina Raji is the chairman of the caretaker committee, while Bamgbose Oluseyi serves as vice chairman. In addition to these individuals, the Committee also consists of Sunday Aransiola, Sulaiman Onabanjo, Azeez Abdulrahman, Isiaka Seriki, Victor Ifemenam, Kareem Babatunde, Amusan Abdulrahman, Teslim Adeshina, Sulaiman Surajudeen, and Fatai Rauf. Sunday Banjo, Segun Omole, Thomas Akinkayode, Taiwo Lasisi, He said, “Members of the Committee include Adewale Adeniyi, Olatunji Durojaiye, Wasiu Olanrewaju, Taofeek Onileola, Yusuf Afolabi, Bode Ogungbade, Alh. A.A. Ussaini, Saliu Usman, Saheed Badru, Kolawole Yusuf, Kayode Thomas, Idowu Oyewo Giwa emphasized that personnel from the Lagos State Police Command would be deployed across the State to enforce the suspension and protect the safety of lives and property. Giwa stressed that the committee’s formation was required to stop additional acts of violence in the State.

The Special Adviser also disclosed that the State had met with some RTEAN representatives after a protest by some Union members calling for the removal of their National President. The Government, according to the Special Adviser, had given the RTEAN members assurances that the allegations against the National President would be thoroughly investigated with a commitment to resolving all outstanding issues.
