In a surprising turn of events, Springbok and Sharks captain Siya Kolisi has seemingly ignored his estranged wife Rachel Kolisi’s birthday on social media.
This comes after the couple announced their separation in October, and since then, they’ve spent the festive season apart, choosing to co-parent from different homes.
Rachel Kolisi Shares Love on Her Special Day
Rachel Kolisi made sure to celebrate her special day by sharing heartwarming birthday messages from her friends and family on her Instagram Stories.
Her sister-in-law Marise Pollard, Springbok WAGS Anlia Etzebeth, and Layla Kolbe, among others, all sent their well-wishes.
Siya’s siblings, Liphelo and Liyema, also posted messages calling Rachel a “mother figure” in their lives.
She posted a picture of herself looking radiant, describing how she was “surrounded by love and joy.”
But what caught people’s attention was the absence of a birthday message from Siya.
This was a stark contrast to the usual playful banter between the two, which would often show up in the comments section of her posts.
Instead, Siya shared pictures of himself at Anfield, the home stadium of his beloved Liverpool Football Club, in England, ahead of his Sharks game against Cardiff Rugby.
An Evolving Relationship Since Their Separation
While Siya and Rachel still follow each other on Instagram, it seems their interactions have become more distant.
They no longer engage with each other’s posts, unlike the past when their relationship was filled with public affection.
Reflecting on Last Year’s Celebration
The contrast between this year and last year’s birthday is significant.
In 2024, Siya Kolisi was all praise for his wife, calling her “Mariri” in an affectionate Instagram post.
He joked about her age, posting a happy family photo with the caption, “Happy 24th birth my love.
Thank you for all you are and all you do for us.”
It was a heartwarming moment, but this year’s silence speaks volumes about how much has changed in their relationship.
