It’s been a rough stretch for Shakira and her fans lately as the Colombian superstar cancels her sixth concert on the highly anticipated Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran world tour.
With a lineup of shows already sold out, fans are understandably frustrated by the repeated disappointments.
Multiple Reasons Behind the Cancellations
The reasons behind these cancellations have varied from hospitalizations to technical glitches and even safety concerns at some venues.
The latest blow came when Shakira had to cancel a WorldPride show scheduled for Washington, DC, due to production delays following issues at a previous concert in Boston.
At around 5pm EST on Friday, the venue shared a statement explaining the problem: the entire tour production couldn’t be transported from Boston to Washington in time for the scheduled performance at Nationals Park on May 31.
Shakira’s Heartfelt Message to Fans
Shakira opened up about the cancellations herself, telling TMZ how much she had been looking forward to reuniting with her fans.
“I’ve been counting the days, really excited to perform for my fans in Washington and Boston,” she said.
“My team and I tried everything we could, but unfortunately, some things are out of our control.
I’m truly devastated that we couldn’t make these shows happen this time.”
She also promised to do everything possible to return to her fans soon, reassuring them, “I will do everything in my power to be with you as soon as I can.”
Safety Concerns Cause Earlier Show Cancellations
Just before Washington, Shakira had to call off two consecutive shows at Boston’s Fenway Park.
Reports revealed that city inspectors found structural issues at the venue that didn’t meet safety standards.
This was a tough blow, especially since many fans had traveled far and made special plans to see her perform.
Fans Express Anger and Disappointment Online
The cancellations have not gone down well with fans, many of whom took to Instagram to share their frustration.
One fan vented, “I traveled with my family from Pittsburgh, took time off work, and paid for an Airbnb — all for this one special occasion.
This was supposed to be my daughter’s birthday gift.”
Another wrote, “I waited 30 years to see you.
You cancel a sold-out show less than 24 hours before in Washington, DC? I’m heartbroken.”
Others were less forgiving, criticizing the cancellations as a marketing flop and demanding more empathy from the singer.
How Shakira’s Tour Got Off to a Rocky Start
This isn’t the first time Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran has run into trouble.
The tour kicked off in Brazil back in February, but within weeks Shakira postponed four Latin American shows — one due to health reasons and three due to production problems.
When she had to cancel back-to-back dates in Chile, Shakira tried to make up for it with an impromptu balcony performance, delighting the fans who had gathered outside her hotel.
Production Challenges and Venue Upgrades
Shakira explained that much of the trouble stemmed from relying on local production teams, saying, “When an artist travels to a country, the production becomes dependent on local producers.
We trusted the production company hired by the promoter to follow all our detailed specifications for a show of this scale.”
Last year, she also rescheduled North American shows to upgrade venues from arenas to larger stadiums to meet demand.
Despite Challenges, The Tour Is a Massive Success
Even with all the hiccups, Shakira’s tour is smashing records.
It has become the highest-grossing Latin American concert tour by a female artist, surpassing Karol G’s Mañana Será Bonito tour.
In just 21 shows across Mexico and South America, the tour has grossed an eye-popping $130 million.
According to Billboard, it’s the only Latin tour to make the Top 10 in the 2025 midyear Boxscore Report, ranking number two globally, just behind Coldplay’s massive $142 million haul.
