SASSA declares the payment date for old age grants in January 2024

SASSA’s Old Age Social Grants Payment Schedule: January 2024

SASSA, the South African Social Security Agency, has disclosed the payment plan for old age social grants for January 2024.

This schedule is crucial in providing timely financial support to older individuals, with the first payment date exclusively allocated for them.

Commencement of Payments for Elderly Beneficiaries

Beginning from 3 January 2024, elderly beneficiaries can anticipate the initiation of payments, marking the commencement of the payout cycle for the new financial year.

This early disbursement aims to ensure timely financial assistance for older citizens.

Closure of SASSA and Postbank Cash Points (CPPs)

However, SASSA has issued a significant notice to beneficiaries regarding the closure of all remaining SASSA and Postbank Cash Points (CPPs) from January to March 2024.

This phasing-out process, as outlined in an official statement, is scheduled to occur gradually, starting in January and concluding by 31 March 2024.

Strategic Alignment with Agency’s Objectives

This strategic move aligns with SASSA’s objective to cease all CPP and Post Office branch grant payments within this specified timeframe.

It reflects the agency’s commitment to a streamlined approach in grant distribution.

Transition Period and Alternative Access Options

During this transition, SASSA has provided alternative methods for beneficiaries to access their funds.

These options include making purchases at retailers equipped with point-of-sale systems or withdrawing cash from retailers offering a cashback facility.

Commitment to Smooth Distribution

As these changes take effect, SASSA remains dedicated to ensuring a smooth and efficient process for distributing social grants in the upcoming months.

The agency’s commitment persists despite the necessary adaptations in the grant distribution system.
