Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State, has congratulated Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on his 70th birthday. Asiwaju Tinubu is defined by him as a “visionary, consistent, devoted, enigmatic, and master strategist” whose democratic credentials are scholarly materials for political economics research
On March 29, Asiwaju Tinubu, a top presidential candidate in the APC and the first Governor of Lagos State in the current Fourth Republic, would turn 70. Governor Sanwo-Olu said Asiwaju Tinubu is very consistent in his ideas and deeds concerning the development of Lagos State and Nigeria, according to a congratulatory statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, on Monday.
He claimed Tinubu has devoted the majority of his adult life to serving humanity, Lagos State, and Nigeria, citing his contributions to democracy and good governance, particularly his role during the aborted Third Republic and the struggle for democratic enthronement following the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.
“Like a giant, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu bestrides Nigeria’s socio-political arena with vigour and vision,” he remarked. During the dark days of the military dictatorship, he stayed hard on the side of the Nigerian people, even if it meant risking his life and personal goods.
He and other progressives took a stand during the annulment of the June 12 battle that resulted in the end of the military interregnum and the establishment of normal government, which we all enjoy today. “With the return to democracy, Asiwaju shown political foresight, boldness, and shrewdness to prevent Nigeria from becoming a one-party state.”
His financial savvy and economic acumen, which he put to good use as Governor of Lagos State, have propelled our beloved state to new heights. Lagos is now the pride of Nigeria, with an enviable position as Africa’s fifth largest economy.
“On behalf of my darling wife, Ibijoke, and the good people of Lagos State, as well as leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress, I wish our National Leader a happy birthday, a long life, and sound health so that he can continue to serve Nigeria,” Governor Sanwo-Olu prayed.
