South African football fans will be able to watch SA teams compete in both the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup.
That’s because the SABC Sport has obtained the rights to broadcast both championships’ group stage matches.
This implies that practically every family, not just those with access to DStv, will be able to watch the matches.
These matches will involve Mamelodi Sundowns, AmaZulu (CAF Champions League) and Orlando Pirates (CAF Confederation Cup).
The announcers were hired by the SABC
on Wednesday night on Metro FM’s Ultimate Sports Show with Thomas Mlambo.
However, at this stage, the SABC confirmed that it will only cover the home matches involving the three teams – Sundowns, AmaZulu and Pirates.
Midweek matches will be screened on SABC Sport channel 124 while almost all weekend games will be on the public broadcaster’s free-to-air channels.
Benni McCarthy’s men are in Group B of the CAF Champions League alongside Raja Casablanca (Morocco), ES Setif (Algeria), and Horoya AC (Guinea).
Sundowns, on the other hand, are in Group A with Al Ahly (Egypt), Al-Hilal (Sudan) and Al-Merrikh SC (Sudan).
In the CAF Confederation Cup, Pirates are in the same group as Royal Leopards (Eswatini), JS Saoura (Algeria) and Al Ittihad (Libya).
