The nominees for the 2022 International Emmy Awards have been released, and “Reyka” on M-Net and Kim Engelbrecht are in the race for Best Drama and Best Performance by an Actress, respectively.

The author and creator of the thriller series, also known as “The Cane Field Killings” in some countries, is Rohan Dickson.

It won four of the eight awards it was nominated for at the Saftas in early September: Best Actress in a TV Drama (Kim Engelbrecht), Best Achievement in Scriptwriting – TV Drama (Dickson), Best Achievement in Directing – TV Drama (Catharine Cooke, Zwelesizwe Ntuli), and Best Achievement in Cinematography – TV Drama (Tom Marais).

Reyka Gama, an investigator and criminal profiler, investigates a string of gruesome killings in KwaZulu-Natal in “Reyka,” which alternates between the past and the present.

Her judgment becomes confused when a horrific event from her childhood returns to haunt her. Angus Speelman, who kidnapped her as a youngster and was portrayed by Scottish actor Iain Glen, will soon be released from prison.

Reyka was kidnapped while accompanying her mother on a business assignment in South Africa during a key historical juncture.

She was held captive for four years before escaping.

Gabrielle de Gama made her series debut as Young Reyka.

Thursday, executive producer Harriet Gavshon shared the happy news on Facebook.

She wrote: “So today this occurred! Reyka and Kim Engelbrecht have been been nominated for an international Emmy for best drama series and best actress, respectively. If you haven’t seen it yet, Showmax has it. Well done to a brilliant team!”

Theater veteran Janice Honeyman said, “Wow! That’s sooo wonderful! Congratulations to everyone! Indeed, effort pays dividends. Yaaaay! Jan.”

The actress Grethe Fox congratulated everyone in a letter.

The only other African series to receive a nomination is the children’s show “My Better World.”

“Reyka” will compete in the Best Drama category alongside “Narcos: Mexico”, “Lupin”, and “Vigil.”

On Monday, November 21, the 50th International Emmy Awards Gala will be held in New York City.
