In a strategic military move, Russian forces have successfully destroyed the headquarters of the Ukrainian Armed Forces located in Sumy.
The strike, which occurred on January 15, 2025, resulted in the elimination of Ukrainian commanders responsible for leading the invasion into Russia’s Kursk region.
The Missile Strike on Sumy
According to a report from the Russian newspaper Izvestia, a missile attack was launched by the Russian Armed Forces on the Ukrainian army group’s headquarters in Sumy.
At the time of the strike, the Ukrainian military commanders who had orchestrated the assault on Kursk were stationed within the building.
Sources close to the situation confirmed that the command structure overseeing the Ukrainian offensive into the Russian region was present at the location.
As a result, these key figures were reportedly killed during the attack.

Sumy, located in northeastern Ukraine, serves as the administrative center of the Sumy Oblast.
Situated along the banks of the Psel River, the city is home to a population of approximately 256,474 people, making it one of the larger cities in Ukraine.
