According to a royal expert, King Charles broke down in tears and called Camilla after the Queen allegedly refused to accept her into the family.
While Camilla has been by Charles’ side at royal engagements since their marriage in 2005, she hasn’t always been welcomed by the Queen.
Investigative author Tom Bower claimed that for years, both the Queen and her mother refused to have anything to do with Charles’s mistress and actively disapproved of Charles’s relationship with her.
The Queen reportedly accused Charles of lying about his relationship with Camilla during a confrontation at Balmoral.
Charles reportedly stormed out and “tearfully” called Camilla.
However, a turning point in the relationship with Camilla and the Queen proved to be the Queen Mother’s funeral in 2002 when the future King paid a tearful tribute.
Mixed reactions have arisen over the years regarding the Duke of Cornwall and his relationship with the former Duchess of Cornwall.
As stated, both the Queen and her mother initially refused to acknowledge Camilla’s existence.
In a 2018 interview with the Mail, Bower revealed that “not only did they not want her present at any royal function, either formal or informal, they actively disapproved of her, and of Charles’s relationship with her.”
The late Queen accused Charles of lying about his relationship with “that wicked woman” Camilla.
Howard Hodgson, a royal expert, explained that the Queen’s relationship with Camilla changed over the years.
A turning point in their relationship was the Queen Mother’s funeral in 2002, during which the future King paid a tearful tribute.
Later, the Queen changed her mind about Camilla and began to accept her as a member of the family.
