Roy Keane Slams Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Performance for ‘Schoolboy’ Defending During Liverpool’s Match Against Manchester United

Roy Keane didn’t hold back in his criticism of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s performance during Liverpool’s match against Manchester United, particularly in the first half.

Keane was quick to point out what he described as ‘schoolboy’ defending from the right-back, who seemed to struggle throughout the opening 45 minutes.

A Challenging First Half for Alexander-Arnold

Trent Alexander-Arnold had a difficult time during the match as he was easily bypassed on multiple occasions.

Diogo Dalot managed to get past him early on, sending in a cross towards Amad Diallo, who failed to capitalize on the opportunity.

Shortly after, Alexander-Arnold was caught out again, this time keeping Rasmus Hojlund onside with a ball played over the top.

Hojlund’s shot was stopped by Liverpool’s goalkeeper, Alisson.

Keane’s Scathing Remarks

Keane, speaking on Sky Sports, didn’t mince words, saying, “It’s too easy. Just a couple of balls over the top.

Trent’s defending is like schoolboy stuff. Talking about going to Real Madrid? He’ll go to Tranmere Rovers after this.”

The comment about Tranmere sparked a cheeky response from the League Two club on social media, tweeting, “Trent to Tranmere, Roy? Nah, we’re alright thanks.”

A Quick Turnaround in the Game

Despite Alexander-Arnold’s struggles, Liverpool managed to bounce back in the second half.

Lisandro Martinez’s early goal gave Manchester United the lead, just minutes after Dalot once again got past Alexander-Arnold.

However, Liverpool quickly turned the tide with goals from Cody Gakpo and a penalty from Mohamed Salah in the span of just 11 minutes.

Alexander-Arnold’s Role in United’s Equalizer

Unfortunately for Alexander-Arnold, his tough performance continued to haunt him.

A cross from his side of the pitch allowed Amad Diallo to level the score for United, highlighting the right-back’s continuing defensive issues during the match.

Speculation Surrounding His Future

The criticism of Alexander-Arnold comes amid growing speculation about his future at Liverpool.

The 26-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season, is reportedly a target for Real Madrid.

Although Liverpool rejected a January bid from the Spanish giants, sources in Spain are confident that Real Madrid will pursue Alexander-Arnold more seriously in the summer.

Liverpool Boss Warns Real Madrid About Pursuit

Ahead of the match, Liverpool’s manager Jürgen Klopp addressed the potential interest from Madrid.

He pointed to the example of Steven Gerrard, who famously turned down a move to the Spanish club during his time at Liverpool.

Klopp remarked, “There was one player (Gerrard) they would have really loved to have, but he didn’t come. So it has happened.”

It seems that Real Madrid’s pursuit of Alexander-Arnold could face some hurdles, even with their reported interest in the player.

Only time will tell if the defender stays put or makes the move to the European champions.
