Robert Sanchez’s Costly Error Leads to Wolves Equalising at Stamford Bridge in First Half

Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez found himself in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons after a costly mistake gifted Wolves an equaliser just before half-time.

The Blues, who were leading thanks to a deflected goal from Tosin Adarabioyo, were left with egg on their face after Sanchez failed to handle a corner from Matheus Cunha.

Sanchez’s Mishandling Gifts Wolves a Goal

The turning point came in first-half stoppage time when Cunha whipped in a corner from the right.

Sanchez seemed to have it under control but inexplicably spilled the ball back into the danger zone.

Matt Doherty was quick to capitalize on the mistake, poking the ball past Sanchez and into the net to level the score just before the break.

Carragher and Petit Call Out Sanchez’s Mistake

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher didn’t hold back, criticizing Sanchez’s handling of the situation.

“Every set piece is the same now,” Carragher said.

“He should’ve punched it away. He’s a Premier League goalkeeper. It’s not a foul. There’s nothing there.

We just keep seeing signs that Sanchez might be better suited to a team in the bottom half of the table.”

Emmanuel Petit, another former player turned pundit, echoed similar sentiments, questioning Sanchez’s decision to attempt a catch rather than punching the ball clear.

“He was under pressure and so close to his own line. There were so many bodies around him.

If you want security, just punch the ball,” Petit explained during the broadcast.

Chelsea Responds Strongly After the Break

Despite the setback, Chelsea quickly regrouped in the second half.

Goals from Marc Cucurella and Noni Madueke helped the Blues regain control and secure a comfortable victory, but Sanchez’s mistake remains a glaring moment in the match.
