Residents near to Cardiff docks are being asked to stay inside and keep their windows shut due to chemical leakage

A chemical leak in Cardiff hospitalized three people, and neighboring households were advised to stay inside and close their windows.

Shortly after 11 a.m., emergency services including police, fire, and ambulance raced to Queen Alexandra Docks, Butetown, Cardiff Bay.

According to the ambulance service, a quick response car, an ambulance, a duty operations manager, and a hazardous area response team were dispatched to the location.

‘South Wales Police were summoned to allegations of a chemical leak on Queen Alexandra Dock, Butetown,’ said a spokeswoman for the force. The incident was handled by the fire department.

‘Three persons were transported to the hospital as a precaution.’ If you are in the Queen Alexandra Docks area, please avoid it and keep windows and doors closed.

‘In relation to this occurrence, please do not call our control room.’

‘At approximately 1050 today, 19th June 2022, we reacted to a complaint of a chemical incident at Queen Alexandra Dock, Cardiff,’ stated a spokeswoman for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

‘We mobilized a number of fire engines and specialized teams from Cardiff Central, Whitchurch, Maindee, Pencoed, and other locations.’

‘Penarth and the New Inn The event was a minor gas release that was remedied with the help of an onsite engineer.

Three personnel have been taken to the hospital for precautionary measures. Police from South Wales and the Welsh Ambulance Service were also on the scene. There is no ongoing danger to the general population in the area.’
