The University of Jos Teaching Hospital’s Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) has decried the repeated issue of member kidnapping and warned to withdraw its services if the incident continued.
The group voiced alarm about the situation and said that two of their members had been kidnapped in the previous three weeks.
The doctors marched through the streets, threatening that unless something was done to solve the problem, they would be unable to guarantee continued service delivery to their members.
“We want to express our displeasure in strong terms on the recent incidents of abduction of our members and the seemingly unacceptable response of the security architecture of the state in bringing a stop and lasting solution to this menace,” Dr. Noel Nnaegbuna, president of Resident Doctors, JUTH branch, said in an interview with journalists. The kidnapping of two of our members in the previous three weeks is a cause for alarm. These recent events have caused our members and their families immeasurable mental, psychological, and emotional pain, and have prevented us from providing our all in our lines of duty.

We would have taken to the streets, but for the sake of innocent Nigerians who will require medical attention, we have resorted to a nonviolent protest to express our discontent with recent events.
“If this trend continues, we will be unable to provide our members with ongoing, uninterrupted service.”
The ARD president urged all levels of government to act quickly to combat the threat of instability. He promised that their members would continue to exert pressure on the relevant agencies to ensure that the threat was eliminated.
