Qatar Airways has reached a major milestone in its mission to provide top-tier in-flight connectivity by equipping half of its Boeing fleet with Starlink’s high-speed satellite internet service.
This exciting development comes just four months after the airline made history with the world’s first Boeing 777 flight equipped with Starlink.
Expanding the Starlink Reach Across More Aircraft
The partnership between Qatar Airways and Starlink began with the installation of the satellite service on select Boeing 777 aircraft.
By the end of 2024, the airline had outfitted 12 Boeing 777-300s with Starlink, and the rollout continues at a fast pace.
The service has since expanded to more models within the airline’s fleet, marking a significant leap in their ability to provide passengers with reliable internet during flights.
Speeding Up the Installation Process for Faster Connectivity
Qatar Airways has made impressive strides in improving the efficiency of the Starlink installation process.
Initially, the airline estimated it would take two to three days to install the service on each aircraft.
Now, they’ve reduced that installation time to just 9.5 hours, enabling them to move quickly and cover more aircraft faster than originally planned.
With this accelerated pace, Qatar Airways now aims to complete the full integration of Starlink across its Boeing 777 fleet by the second quarter of 2025—far ahead of their initial two-year timeline.
CEO Highlights Speed and Efficiency in Expanding In-Flight Connectivity
Qatar Airways’ Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, expressed the airline’s pride in how quickly they’ve been able to deliver on their connectivity promises.
“In just four months since launching the world’s first Boeing 777 Starlink-equipped flight, we’ve already installed this groundbreaking service on 30 aircraft—far exceeding our initial targets,” said Al-Meer.
He further emphasized how the team’s efficiency and dedication have been key to the rapid rollout, adding that Starlink Wi-Fi is a true game-changer for passengers.
Soon, travelers will be able to enjoy seamless, uninterrupted connectivity on even more routes.
The Future of In-Flight Connectivity with Starlink
Starlink’s satellite technology offers airlines high-speed, low-latency internet that’s perfect for video streaming, gaming, and video calls, making it a highly sought-after service in the aviation industry.
As more aircraft are equipped with Starlink, Qatar Airways is setting the bar for modern in-flight connectivity, ensuring passengers stay connected even while cruising high above the ground.
