As the Proteas gear up for the highly anticipated New Year’s Test against Pakistan at Newlands, there’s a buzz around the squad updates.
Fresh from their nail-biting two-wicket victory in the Boxing Day Test at Centurion, South Africa is making a few strategic changes to their lineup to strengthen their chances of success.
New Faces in the Squad
Three players from the Boxing Day Test—Tony de Zorzi, Corbin Bosch, and Dane Paterson—make way for Wiaan Mulder, Keshav Maharaj, and the young debutant Kwena Maphaka.
At just 18 years and 271 days old, Maphaka is set to make history as South Africa’s youngest Test debutant.
This breaks a record previously held by spinner Paul Adams, who debuted at 18 years and 340 days in 1995.
It’s a proud moment for the young player and South African cricket fans alike!
