Prosecutors in Baltimore are attempting to overturn the decades-old murder conviction of Adnan Syed, whose case was highlighted in the popular podcast “Serial.”

The Wall Street Journal said that the Maryland attorney for Baltimore filed a request on Wednesday claiming that a yearlong probe produced fresh information regarding Syed’s conviction.

According to the story, prosecutors are asking a fresh trial because they lack confidence in the first conviction.

Syed was convicted of murdering his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee in 1999 and has been serving a life sentence since 2000.

The first season of the investigative podcast “Serial” detailed flaws in the prosecutor’s case and threw doubt on Syed’s guilt.
