Proof of vaccination, no singing as ZCC reopens after two-year break

The Zion Christian Church (ZCC) which is one of the biggest in South Africa will reopen on Sunday, 24 April after a two-year break.

ZCC which was established in 1924 by Joseph Engenas Matlhakanye Lekganyane is estimated to number between 2 million and 6 million members in more than 4,000 parishes.

In a statement, the ZCC said the past two years have been difficult for every member. However, since the state of disaster has been lifted in countries where ZCC has its footprints, they have decided to reopen.

All other branches, especially in South Africa will open except for Moria, the headquarters of the church in Limpopo.

The ZCC also said no choirs will be allowed to start with their normal activities, church service will be limited to 45 minutes with only two preachers. No singing will be allowed during the church service.

Bigger branches will be allowed two sessions Sunday services from 14:30 – 15:15 and 15:45 – 16:30. Smaller branches will only have 45 minutes service.

“All members of the Zion Christian Church who wish to attend a church service or take part in any activities of the church must provide proof of vaccination, along with ID document to prove that the certificate is of member present.

“They can also bring negative Covid-19 results (PCR or Rapid Antigen Test) not older than 72 hours. Those who have not vaccinated must provide a full medical report for not vaccinating, with full details of the medical practitioner. This provision will also apply to non-members.”
