In a move that surprised many, President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Tuesday afternoon aimed at reducing the costs of in vitro fertilization (IVF) and expanding access to the procedure.
The order directs the U.S. Domestic Policy Council to explore ways to make IVF more affordable and accessible, a measure Trump believes will greatly benefit families and women seeking fertility treatments.
During a news conference after signing the order, Trump remarked, “I’ve been saying we’re going to do what we have to do.
I think the women and families [and] husbands are very appreciative of it.”
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt later echoed his sentiment in a post on X, stating the order would “aggressively reduce out-of-pocket and health plan costs” for IVF, while also working to protect access to the procedure.

The executive order directs the Domestic Policy Council to come up with a set of policy recommendations to lower IVF costs within the next 90 days.

“Only 7% of human embryos created via IVF will result in a live birth,” Rose wrote in a post after the White House announcement. “93% of these lives are frozen indefinitely, miscarried, or aborted.”
Rose also pointed out that over one million embryos are currently frozen in the U.S. due to IVF procedures.
This opposition stems from the belief held by many pro-life advocates, including the Catholic Church, that IVF’s creation and destruction of embryos is morally wrong.
IVF, while a technological marvel for many seeking to build their families, diverges from natural conception and raises ethical concerns about the treatment of human life from its earliest stages.
