On a solemn Sunday morning, 13 August, the African National Congress (ANC) declared the news via a sincere tweet on their official Twitter profile.
The tweet on the official ANC page stated, “Comrade Kallie Hanekom committed his life to the fight for freedom, fairness, and equality in our cherished country.”

“I offer sincere condolences on the recent passing of freedom fighter and patriot Kallie Hanekom, father of Joe and Bram Hanekom and brother of Derek Hanekom.
At the age of 73, Kallie Hanekom has concluded a life of principle, struggle, and commitment to a free and non-racial South Africa,” President Ramaphosa tweeted on August 13, 2023.

He continued, “He personified the essence of dedication and unwavering resolve that characterized the battle against apartheid.”
