Pope Francis Shows Improvement in Health Condition as Mild Kidney Insufficiency Subsides in Vatican City

Vatican City, February 26, 2025 – Pope Francis’ health has taken a positive turn after recent concerns about his kidney function, according to a statement from the Vatican.

The 88-year-old pontiff, who has been receiving treatment in Gemelli Hospital, is reportedly seeing gradual improvement in his condition.

Kidney Function Improving Despite Ongoing Treatment

In the latest update, the Vatican shared that Pope Francis’ mild kidney insufficiency had “subsided,” signaling a step in the right direction.

“The mild renal insufficiency noted in recent days has receded,” the Holy See Press Office said in their statement.

Though there has been some improvement, they cautioned that the pope’s prognosis remains “reserved,” reflecting that his recovery is still a delicate matter.

Tests Show Positive Signs of Recovery

Despite the challenges, Pope Francis’ medical team remains optimistic.

A chest CT scan conducted on Tuesday evening revealed that the lung inflammation caused by pneumonia was progressing normally.

The scans indicated no significant changes, which was a relief for his doctors.

Further blood tests on Wednesday confirmed that his condition was improving, though he remains fragile.

“Today’s hematochemical and hemacytometric examinations confirmed yesterday’s improvement,” the Vatican reported in the evening.

Ongoing Treatment and Work

Though he is still undergoing high-flow oxygen therapy to treat his pneumonia, Pope Francis did not experience any “asthmatic respiratory crisis” on his 12th day of treatment.

His doctors have been providing respiratory physiotherapy to help him recover.

Throughout the day, the pope continued with his usual routine, including receiving the Eucharist in the morning, and he dedicated his afternoon to work activities, demonstrating his commitment to his duties despite his health challenges.

The Vatican’s latest update offers a mix of caution and hope, as the pope’s condition continues to improve but remains under careful observation.
